Scotland Suffer Woeful Defeat in Euro 2024 Opener

Scotland Wilts Against Scorching Germany Performance

Munich, Germany - Friday, June 14, 2024

Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign got off to a dismal start on Friday night, as they suffered a crushing defeat to tournament hosts Germany in Munich. The 10-man Scottish side wilted in the face of a dominant German display, with the match ultimately ending in a demoralizing 0-3 loss.

The match started brightly for Scotland, with the team looking organized and determined. However, Germany soon took control of the game, dominating possession and creating numerous chances. Scotland's resistance was finally broken in the 35th minute, when Joshua Kimmich fired a stunning shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Scotland's hopes were further dashed just before halftime when defender Kieran Tierney was sent off for a second yellow card. Germany took full advantage of their numerical superiority, with Timo Werner doubling their lead in the 47th minute. Leroy Sané then put the game beyond doubt with a clinical finish in the 60th minute.

The defeat leaves Scotland bottom of Group A after the first round of matches. They will now face a must-win game against the Netherlands on Tuesday, June 18, in order to keep their qualification hopes alive.
